3. The first Air Force Reserve unit in Arizona was founded on June 2, 1948. The 303rd Troop Carrier Wing was formed at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, and eventually moved to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson.

4. On June 2, 1990, the Phoenix Suns basketball team played the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. It was the first time the Suns had made it to the championship series, but they ultimately lost to the Celtics in six games.

5. In 2016, Arizona Senator John McCain won his party's nomination for re-election on June 2. McCain, who had been in the Senate since 1987 and ran for president in 2000 and 2008, went on to win the general election that November.
