1. In 1864, Nevada was officially admitted as the 36th state of the United States on June 30th. This day is now celebrated as Nevada Day.

2. On June 30, 1930, construction began on the Hoover Dam, a monumental project that employed over 21,000 workers and took over five years to complete. Today, the dam is a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of American engineering prowess.

3. In 1954, the famous Las Vegas Strip saw the opening of the first hotel and casino to be built on the famous resort corridor. The El Rancho Vegas hotel and casino featured 63 rooms and a showroom that hosted performances by Hollywood celebrities such as Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra.

4. June 30, 1983, saw the opening of the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, which at the time was the largest hotel complex in the world. The property featured more than 2,000 rooms, a massive casino floor, and was home to the famous Cirque du Soleil show "KÀ."

5. On June 30, 1997, Primm, Nevada, was struck by an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale. The earthquake caused minor damage to buildings and infrastructure in the area, but no injuries were reported.
