1. On June 4, 1632, King Charles I of England granted a charter to Cecil Calvert, the second Lord Baltimore, for the land that would become the colony of Maryland.

2. June 4, 1812 saw the beginning of the War of 1812, a conflict between the United States and Great Britain. Maryland played a significant role in the war, with multiple battles fought on its soil, including the famous Battle of Baltimore in 1814.

3. On June 4, 1919, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting women the right to vote, passed the United States Senate. Maryland was one of the first states to ratify the amendment, doing so on March 29, 1920.

4. The Maryland State House, located in Annapolis, was completed on June 4, 1779. It is the oldest state capitol still in continuous use in the United States.

5. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge, spanning 4.3 miles across the bay, opened to traffic on June 4, 1952. The bridge connects Maryland's eastern and western shores, making transportation across the state much easier.
