1. In 1963, Tennessee native Davy Crockett was honored with a statue in front of the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. The statue, sculpted by Pompeo Coppini, was dedicated on June 5 of that year. Crockett was born in Greene County, Tennessee in 1786 and became a legendary frontiersman, soldier, and politician.

2. On June 5, 1917, Tennesseans were required to register for the first draft of World War I. This registration was the first step in selecting soldiers for the military. Over 200,000 Tennesseans registered for the draft between June 5 and June 15.

3. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was created on June 5, 1933, as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. The TVA is a federally owned corporation that provides power, flood control, and economic development for the Tennessee Valley region. It is the largest public power provider in the United States.

5. June 5, 2021, marks the 135th anniversary of the opening of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Originally built as a tabernacle for revivals and other religious events, the Ryman became a premier music venue in the early 20th century. It hosted the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974 and is still considered one of the best places to see live music in the country.
