1) On June 6, 1832, the Black Hawk War officially began in Michigan when soldiers led by General Henry Atkinson clashed with Native American tribes. The war would continue until August of that year.

5) On June 6, 1968, the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy shook the nation. Kennedy had just won the California Democratic presidential primary and was leaving the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles when he was shot by Sirhan Sirhan. Kennedy died the next day.
