1. In 1889, the Rhode Island State House was dedicated in Providence. The building, which took five years to construct, was built to replace the original state house that had burned down in 1901.

2. In 1775, the British ship HMS Rose was burned by American forces in Narragansett Bay. This event was part of the American Revolution and helped to demonstrate the resolve of the American patriots.

3. In 1968, the Providence Civic Center opened. The arena, which is now known as the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, has hosted events ranging from rock concerts to professional hockey games.

4. In 1765, Rhode Island became the first colony to pass an act of disobedience against the British government. The act declared that the colony would not pay the new Stamp Tax, which was imposed by the British parliament.

5. In 1852, the Providence and Worcester Railroad was chartered. This railroad played an important role in connecting the city of Providence with other parts of Rhode Island, as well as neighboring states. Today, the railroad is still in operation and transports goods throughout the region.
