1. On March 23, 1928, the Tamiami Trail, a road connecting Tampa and Miami, was completed after three years of construction. The 275-mile long highway was the first paved road connecting the two major cities and opened up new opportunities for tourism and commerce in Florida.

2. In 1983, the City of Miami Beach was officially incorporated on March 23, after a referendum was passed to consolidate the previously existing four municipalities – North Bay Village, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, and Surfside – into a single city.
