1. On March 28, 1796, Rhode Island finally ratified the United States Constitution, becoming the last state to do so. Rhode Island had initially rejected the Constitution, leading to controversy and debate within the state.

2. It was on March 28, 1939, that the Rhode Island School for the Deaf moved to its current location on Providence's Elmgrove Avenue. The school had previously been housed in several different locations throughout Rhode Island.

3. In 1973, a massive blizzard struck Rhode Island on March 28th and 29th, paralyzing the state and causing widespread damage. Known as the "Blizzard of '73," the storm dumped up to 30 inches of snow in some areas, and resulted in numerous deaths and injuries.

4. On March 28, 2003, Rhode Island became the first state in the United States to pass a law requiring carbon monoxide detectors in all new residential construction. The law was put in place in response to several tragedies in which people died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

5. March 28, 1934, was the date of a major fire at the Rhode Island State House in Providence. The fire resulted in significant damage to the building, but the historic structure was eventually restored to its former glory. Today, the State House is a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of Rhode Island's proud history.
