1. In 1912, the town of Longmont was hit by a devastating tornado, killing five people and causing massive damage to homes and businesses. The tornado remains one of the deadliest in Colorado's history.

2. On March 30, 1937, the Boulder Dam (now known as the Hoover Dam) was dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The dam, which was built on the Colorado River between Arizona and Nevada, still stands as a monument to American engineering and ingenuity.

3. In 1964, Denver International Airport (DIA) was approved for construction, which would make it one of the largest airports in the world. Construction took many years and faced significant controversy and setbacks, but DIA finally opened for business in 1995.

4. In 1970, the Colorado Rockies (not to be confused with the current NHL team of the same name) played their first game as a professional hockey team. The Rockies played in the NHL for six seasons before relocating to New Jersey in 1982.

5. On March 30, 2019, the Colorado Rockies hosted their first home game of the 2019 MLB season against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rockies went on to win the game 7-2 in front of a sellout crowd at Coors Field in Denver.
