1. On March 30, 1870, South Carolina became the last Confederate state to be readmitted to the Union following the Civil War. This came after the state ratified the 15th Amendment, which prohibited the denial of voting rights based on race or color.

2. The day also marks the anniversary of the founding of Clemson Agricultural College, now known as Clemson University, on March 30, 1889. The school was named after Thomas Clemson, who bequeathed his plantation for the establishment of an agricultural college.

3. In 1960, a historic moment in the civil rights movement took place in Orangeburg, South Carolina on March 30. A group of African American students from South Carolina State University were peacefully protesting segregation at a local bowling alley, when they were met with violence from police. Three students were killed and many others were injured.

4. On March 30, 1981, the city of Columbia, South Carolina experienced a devastating tornado outbreak. The tornadoes resulted in 13 deaths, over 400 injuries, and caused over $35 million in damages.

5. South Carolina is known for its rich history in golf, and on March 30, 2014, Bubba Watson won his second Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. Watson was born in Bagdad, Florida, but has called South Carolina home since attending college at the University of Georgia.
