1. On March 9, 1838, the U.S. government began the forced removal of Native American tribes from their ancestral lands in the southeastern United States. This event, known as the Trail of Tears, led to the relocation of thousands of Native Americans to Indian Territory, which later became the state of Oklahoma.

2. The first territorial legislature of Oklahoma convened on March 9, 1891, in Guthrie. The legislature was made up of 22 members in the House of Representatives and 16 members in the Senate, and it was tasked with creating laws and governing the territory.
