1. On May 14, 1856, the first court session in Brevard County was held in Titusville. The county was named after Theodore Washington Brevard, a Florida state controller who served from 1854 to 1860.

2. In 1964, NASA launched the first spacecraft with people aboard, the Gemini 3. The spacecraft was piloted by astronauts Gus Grissom and John Young, who completed three Earth orbits before landing safely in the Atlantic Ocean.

3. On May 14, 1982, the Florida Aquarium opened in Tampa. The aquarium is home to over 14,000 animals and features exhibits such as "Journey to Madagascar" and "Bays and Beaches."

4. In 2004, the "Sunshine Skyway Bridge" was reopened after extensive repairs following a 1980 disaster in which a freighter collided with the bridge, causing a 1,200-foot section to collapse and taking the lives of 35 individuals.

5. On May 14, 2018, the US Supreme Court ruled that the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) was unconstitutional, paving the way for states to legalize sports betting. Florida has yet to legalize sports betting.
