1. In 1910, the first airplane flight in Nevada was made by Louis Paulhan at the Nevada State Fairgrounds in Reno.

2. On May 18, 1980, the eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington caused a significant ash fall in eastern Nevada, affecting the cities of Elko, West Wendover, and Ely.

3. In 1983, the Nevada Legislature passed Assembly Bill 659, which established the Nevada State Museum System.

4. The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City opened to the public on May 18, 1985. It features preserved locomotives, rolling stock, and artifacts from the state's railroad history.

5. On May 18, 2019, the National Park Service celebrated the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad at the Golden Spike National Historic Site near Promontory, Utah. Many of the workers who built the railroad were Chinese immigrants who worked in harsh conditions for low pay.
