5. In 1987, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay was reopened after being rebuilt following a tragic accident in 1980. The bridge collapsed after being struck by a cargo ship, causing the deaths of 35 people. The new bridge, which is now a landmark of the city, includes engineering features designed to prevent such accidents.
