1. In 1847, Samuel Parker and Marcus Whitman, two pioneer missionaries, arrived at The Dalles, a major trading center in the Oregon Territory. They were on a mission to preach Christianity to the native tribes in the region and establish schools and churches. Their arrival marked the beginning of a wave of settlement and missionary work in the Oregon Territory.

2. In 1865, the Oregon State Agricultural Society was formed in Salem. Its purpose was to promote agriculture and improve the quality of life for farmers in the state. The organization was responsible for hosting agricultural fairs and promoting research and education in farming practices.

3. On May 26, 1927, aviation pioneer Charles Lindbergh made a stop at the Eugene airport as part of his historic solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. A large crowd of spectators gathered to witness his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis, and Lindbergh himself, who had become an instant celebrity following his successful journey.

4. In 1948, the opening ceremonies for the Pacific International Livestock Exposition were held in Portland. This annual event, which lasted until 1995, attracted thousands of visitors and showcased some of the finest livestock from around the world. The exposition also included agricultural exhibits, horse shows, and other attractions.

5. The Oregon Zoo, located in Washington Park, Portland, opened its doors on May 26, 1959. Originally called the Portland Zoo, the park was home to a small collection of animals, including bears, deer, and monkeys. Today, the zoo features over 2,600 animals from more than 200 species, and is one of the top tourist attractions in the state.
