1. In 1910, the Reno arch was erected on Virginia Street in downtown Reno. It has since become a symbol of the city and a popular spot for photos.

2. In 1939, Las Vegas' first hotel-casino, the El Rancho Vegas, opened its doors. This paved the way for the city to become the gambling and entertainment capital it is today.

3. On May 3, 1955, the Moulin Rouge Hotel and Casino opened in Las Vegas, becoming the first integrated hotel-casino in the city. It was a milestone for the civil rights movement and helped to desegregate the Las Vegas Strip.

4. In 1987, a devastating wildfire known as the "Silver Fire" broke out in the Toiyabe National Forest, consuming over 23,000 acres of land. It took over a week to contain and was caused by human negligence.

5. On May 3, 2005, the Hoover Dam Bypass Project officially began construction. The bridge, which spans the Colorado River and connects Arizona and Nevada, was completed in 2010 and is regarded as a modern engineering marvel.
