1. In 1638, John Winthrop Jr. and other English colonists founded the town of Exeter, which would become one of the most influential communities in New Hampshire's early history.

2. In 1726, Captain John Lovewell and his men were ambushed by a group of Abenaki Indians while on a hunting expedition in what is now Fryeburg, Maine. The Battle of Lovewell's Pond became a legendary event in New England history, immortalized in poems and songs like "Lovewell's Fight."

3. On May 30, 1765, the New Hampshire Assembly passed the "Grenville Resolves," a series of resolutions aimed at protesting the Stamp Act, a controversial British tax on paper goods. The resolutions reflected the growing sense of discontent among New Hampshire's colonists toward British rule.

4. In 1854, the New Hampshire State House, the oldest surviving state capitol building in the United States, was dedicated in Concord. The distinctive granite edifice has been the seat of the New Hampshire government ever since, and is a popular tourist destination.

5. On May 30, 1917, New Hampshire National Guardsmen were sent to the Mexican border to join the Punitive Expedition, a military operation launched by President Woodrow Wilson to capture the rebel leader Pancho Villa. Although the Guardsmen were not involved in any major military actions during the Expedition, their presence helped to bolster America's military presence along the border.
