3. The West Virginia State Museum opened on May 31, 1976, in the Culture Center in Charleston, West Virginia. The museum features exhibits on the state's natural history, culture, and industry, as well as rotating temporary exhibits.

4. In 1992, a flood devastated much of West Virginia, particularly the city of Mingo County. The flood was caused by heavy rainfall and resulted in the deaths of 47 people and substantial damage to infrastructure and property.
