1. In 1862, Confederate forces under the command of General Thomas Hindman defeated Union troops in the Battle of Cane Hill, a significant engagement during the Civil War in Arkansas.

2. In 1904, the town of Eudora was incorporated in Chicot County. Located in the southeast corner of the state, Eudora is known for its rich agricultural history and its impressive collection of antebellum homes.

3. In 1949, the Arkansas Razorbacks football team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to a strong LSU squad by a score of 21-0. Despite the defeat, the Hogs would go on to finish the year with a 7-2-1 record and a berth in the Cotton Bowl.

4. In 1989, the Clinton Presidential Library was dedicated in Little Rock. Built to house the papers and artifacts of former President Bill Clinton, the library has since become one of Arkansas' most popular tourist attractions.

5. In 2000, the Arkansas Repertory Theatre premiered its production of "The Gifts of the Magi," a musical adaptation of two classic O. Henri short stories. The show, which has since become a holiday favorite, has been performed by numerous theatre companies around the world.
