2. On November 18, 1867, the Union Pacific Railroad completed a section of track through southern Nebraska, connecting the state to the East Coast for the first time.

3. In 1924, the Nebraska State Capitol building was dedicated. It is one of the tallest capitol buildings in the United States at 400 feet tall.

4. On November 18, 1910, Omaha became the home of the first air mail delivery in the United States. Pilot Fred Wiseman flew from Omaha to Chicago carrying 1,500 letters.

5. In 1942, the U.S. Army established the Kearney Army Airfield in central Nebraska as a training base for bomber pilots during World War II. The airfield was important in the war effort and played a role in the development of strategic bombing tactics.
