3. November 21, 1978 saw the deadly crash of Southern Airways Flight 242, which was flying from Huntsville, Alabama to Atlanta, Georgia. The plane was caught in severe weather and suffered engine failure, ultimately crashing in New Hope, Georgia and resulting in the deaths of 72 people.

4. Alabama native and civil rights leader Rosa Parks was born on November 21, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama. Parks is best known for her role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, where she famously refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person.

5. On November 21, 1818, the state of Alabama officially became the 22nd state of the United States. The state was admitted after its constitution was approved by Congress, and its first governor, William Wyatt Bibb, was inaugurated later that year.
