1. On November 24, 1854, the first Presbyterian church in Spartanburg, South Carolina was organized. Originally called the Union Church, it was established by local residents who wanted to worship in the Presbyterian tradition. Today, the church is known as the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg and is still an active congregation.

2. November 24, 1941 saw the opening of the Santee Cooper power station, located on the Santee River in Berkeley County. This hydroelectric power plant was a major development for the state's infrastructure and provided electricity to many residents of eastern South Carolina.

3. The Charleston School of Law was founded on November 24, 2003 by a group of attorneys who saw a need for a law school in the Charleston area. Today, the school is accredited by the American Bar Association and offers a Juris Doctor degree as well as several specialized law programs.

4. November 24, 1971 was the day that the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley was raised from the waters off the coast of Charleston. The Hunley was the first successful combat submarine in history, sinking the Union ship Housatonic in 1864 before mysteriously disappearing. The sub was recovered nearly 140 years later and is now on display at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center in North Charleston.

5. On November 24, 1861, Confederate forces under General Thomas F. Drayton engaged Union troops at the Battle of Port Royal Sound. The battle took place near present-day Beaufort, South Carolina and was the first major naval engagement of the Civil War. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, the Confederate forces put up a fierce fight before being forced to withdraw.
