1. On November 28, 1861, Colorado Territory was admitted to the Union as the 38th state. The state was originally part of the Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, and New Mexico territories before achieving statehood.

2. In 1922, the famous Western novelist Zane Grey visited Colorado and began his winter tradition of fishing in the Gunnison River. Grey would return to the state every winter until his death in 1939. Today, the Zane Grey Cabin in Hancock, Colorado commemorates his love for the state.

3. On November 28, 1973, the historic Brown Palace Hotel in Denver was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel, which opened in 1892, is known for its opulent decor and has hosted numerous famous guests over the years including President Dwight Eisenhower and the Beatles.

4. In 1992, Colorado voters approved Amendment 2, which aimed to prevent individuals who identified as LGBTQ+ from receiving protected status under local and state anti-discrimination laws. The amendment sparked a nationwide debate about LGBTQ+ rights and was eventually struck down by the Supreme Court in 1996.

5. On November 28, 2014, the Colorado State Patrol commemorated its 80th anniversary of providing law enforcement services to the state. The organization has grown from a small group of officers in 1935 to over 1,100 officers today, and continues to be an integral part of public safety in Colorado.
