1. In 1792, Kentucky became the 15th state in the United States. It was the first state west of the Appalachian Mountains to be admitted to the Union.

2. On November 28, 1820, the Old State Capitol in Frankfort was destroyed by fire. The building had served as Kentucky's State Capitol from 1800 until 1810 when the present-day capitol building was completed.

3. In 1870, the first recorded intercollegiate football game in Kentucky history was played in Lexington between Centre College and Kentucky University (now University of Kentucky). Centre won the game, 1-0.

4. On November 28, 1942, the United States Army activated the 101st Airborne Division at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. The division is known for its actions during World War II, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.

5. In 1975, Kentucky's largest shopping mall, the Mall St. Matthews, opened in Louisville. The mall features more than 130 stores and restaurants and is a popular shopping destination in the Louisville area.
