1. In 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed in Paris, officially ending the American Revolutionary War. This treaty recognized the independence of the United States and established its boundaries, which included Pennsylvania.

2. In 1839, the first successful and sustained railway in the United States began operations in Pennsylvania. The Allegheny Portage Railroad, located in central Pennsylvania, connected the city of Hollidaysburg with Johnstown and allowed for the transportation of goods and people across the Allegheny Mountains.

3. On November 3, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous Gettysburg Address during the dedication ceremony for the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In this speech, Lincoln honored the soldiers who died in the Battle of Gettysburg, which had taken place several months earlier during the Civil War.

4. In 1914, the first concrete highway in the United States was opened in Pennsylvania. The highway, which connected East Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, was originally called the William Penn Highway but is now known as US Route 30.

5. On November 3, 1950, the first regularly scheduled commercial flights began operating out of Pittsburgh International Airport. The airport, located in Imperial, Pennsylvania, has since grown to become one of the busiest airports in the United States.
