1. In 1733, Georgia's founder, James Oglethorpe, landed at Yamacraw Bluff with the first group of settlers to establish the colony of Georgia.

2. In 1864, Union General William T. Sherman captured the city of Savannah, marking a significant turning point in the Civil War.

3. In 1936, the Tallulah Falls Railway in Georgia was officially abandoned. The railway had been in operation since 1877, transporting passengers and freight across the state.

4. In 1961, the Tybee Island Lighthouse was deactivated after more than 100 years of service. The lighthouse had been in operation since 1867, helping to guide ships safely to the Georgia coast.

5. In 1988, construction began on the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The multi-purpose stadium was completed in 1992 and served as the home field for the Atlanta Falcons until 2016. It was demolished in 2017 to make way for a new stadium.
