1. In 1946, a massive storm struck Alaska's Aleutian Islands on November 4th, causing widespread damage and resulting in the loss of 17 lives.

2. On November 4th, 1952, Alaska held its first statewide election after becoming a U.S. territory. This election saw Ernest Gruening elected as the first governor of the newly-formed state.

3. In 1980, on November 4th, the Alaska Lands Act was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter, allowing for the protection of over 100 million acres of wilderness in Alaska.

4. On November 4th, 2002, Alaska Airlines Flight 261 crashed into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California, killing all 88 passengers and crew on board. The plane had been en route to Seattle from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

5. In 2008, an Anchorage jury found former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens guilty of seven counts of corruption, but the verdict was later overturned due to prosecutorial misconduct. This all occurred on November 4th.
