2. In 1896, the Texas Conference of Colored Men was held in Dallas, Texas. This conference marked the first time that African American men in Texas were able to meet as a unified group to discuss political and social issues.

3. In 1946, Lyndon B. Johnson was elected to the United States Senate, defeating the popular former governor of Texas, Coke Stevenson. This was a significant milestone in Johnson's political career, as he went on to become Vice President and eventually President of the United States.

4. In 1952, the Texas A&M Aggies football team defeated the University of Texas Longhorns in what is known as the "Game of the Century." This game was significant not only for its intense rivalry between the two schools, but also because it marked the first time that a Southwest Conference team had been selected to play in the Cotton Bowl.

5. In 2014, Houston's iconic Astrodome was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
