1. On November 9, 1921, Hawaiian-born Duke Kahanamoku set a new world record in the 100-yard freestyle swim, finishing in just 52.4 seconds. Kahanamoku, often referred to as the "Father of Surfing," went on to win five Olympic medals in swimming and helped popularize the sport of surfing around the world.

2. November 9, 1932 marked the opening of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, a landmark luxury hotel on the island of Oahu. The hotel was designed in a distinctive pink color to reflect the vibrant sunsets over Waikiki Beach and has hosted numerous famous guests over the years, including Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, and the Beatles.

3. On November 9, 1943, a B-24 bomber crashed into the side of Mauna Loa, Hawaii's largest volcano. All eleven crew members were killed in the crash, and the wreckage remained on the mountainside for decades before being discovered by hikers in the 1980s.
