1. In 1846, the Battle of Dominguez Rancho took place on October 8-9, but the negotiations for the Treaty of Cahuenga, which ended the Mexican-American War in California, were signed on October 10, 1846. This treaty was the first step in transferring California from Mexico to the United States.

2. On October 10, 1913, the California Theatre opened in San Diego. The theater was a popular venue for both live performances and motion pictures until it closed in 1977. It was restored and reopened as the San Diego Repertory Theatre in 1986.

3. The University of California, Merced, opened its doors on October 10, 2005, becoming the first new UC campus in more than 40 years. The campus was built to provide access to higher education in the Central Valley and now serves a diverse student body of nearly 9,000 students.
