1. In 1912, the first successful parachute jump from an airplane was made by Albert Berry over Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri. Berry jumped from a height of 1,500 feet and landed safely on the parade ground.

2. Missouri's first state Capitol building in Jefferson City was destroyed by fire on October 14, 1837. The fire was caused by the explosion of a wood-burning stove in the Senate Chamber. The Capitol was later rebuilt in 1840.

3. On October 14, 1912, the Ozark National Forest was established in southern Missouri. The forest covers over 1.2 million acres and features diverse landscapes, including mountains, valleys, and waterfalls.

4. In 1925, the Historic Missouri Theatre in Columbia, Missouri opened its doors for the first time. The theatre features a grand marquee and an ornate interior, and has hosted many famous performers over the years, including Bob Dylan and Pearl Jam.

5. October 14, 1955, marked the opening of the first McDonald's restaurant in Missouri, located in St. Louis. The restaurant was the ninth McDonald's location to open in the United States and featured a streamlined menu of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, and shakes. Today, McDonald's is one of the largest fast-food chains in the world.
