3. In 1947, Jack Dempsey, former heavyweight boxing champion of the world, opened a restaurant in Columbia, South Carolina. The establishment, located on Main Street, was named "Dempsey's Grill."

4. In 1987, Hurricane Floyd made landfall near Charleston, causing significant damage and flooding in the area. The storm caused over $150 million in damage and resulted in 5 deaths.

5. In 2002, the United States submarine USS Clamagore was decommissioned and turned into a museum in Charleston. The submarine had served during the Cold War and was now open for public tours.
