1. In 1941, the Kentucky State Police was established. The agency was created by Governor Keen Johnson to provide law enforcement services to rural areas of the state. Today, the Kentucky State Police is responsible for enforcing all state laws and protecting the public throughout Kentucky.

2. On October 15, 1964, the Kentucky Historical Society was officially established. The society is dedicated to preserving the history of the state and promoting awareness of its unique heritage. It is the oldest state historical society in the United States.

3. In 1994, the Kentucky Horse Park opened its doors to the public. The 1,200-acre park is dedicated to showcasing the rich history and diversity of the horse industry in Kentucky. It features several museums, galleries, and outdoor exhibits, as well as a state-of-the-art equine hospital.

4. On October 15, 2009, a coal mine explosion in eastern Kentucky claimed the lives of two miners and injured several others. The accident occurred at the Dotiki Mine in Webster County, and was caused by a buildup of methane gas. It was one of several mining accidents that occurred in Kentucky during the late 2000s.

5. In 2018, a sculpture of Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, was unveiled in Louisville. The statue, which stands over 7 feet tall and weighs more than 400 pounds, was created by artist Gillie and Marc Schattner. It is located outside of a KFC restaurant on Bardstown Road.
