1. In 1874, the first public library in Kansas City, Missouri was established on October 20th. This library was set up in a small room and had less than 300 books.

2. On October 20th, 1944, the Battle of Leyte Gulf began. This was a major naval battle fought between the Allied and Japanese forces in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The battle involved one of the largest naval fleets in history.
