1. In 1813, the Battle of Tallushatchee took place in present-day Calhoun County, Alabama. This battle was fought during the Creek War of 1813-1814 between the United States and the Creek Nation, and resulted in a victory for the United States Army.

2. On October 27, 1864, a group of Confederate soldiers attempted to sabotage a Union supply train near Decatur, Alabama. Known as the Battle of Decatur, the Union forces were ultimately able to repel the attack and protect the supply line.

4. On October 27, 1986, the controversial politician and segregationist George Wallace passed away in Montgomery, Alabama. Wallace served as governor of the state for four terms, and is perhaps best known for his staunch opposition to civil rights and his infamous "Stand in the Schoolhouse Door" incident.

5. In 2010, the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team defeated the Tennessee Volunteers in a game that came to be known as the "Mount Cody Block." With just seconds left in the game, Alabama defensive lineman Terrence Cody blocked a field goal attempt by Tennessee, securing a 12-10 victory for the Crimson Tide.
