3. On October 28, 1949, the first commercial airline flight took place at the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti. The flight was operated by Northwest Airlines and flew to Minneapolis.
4. On this day in 1981, astronaut and Michigan native Jack Lousma returned to Earth after spending 59 days aboard the space shuttle Columbia.
5. In 2002, the Detroit Red Wings retired Steve Yzerman's jersey number 19 in a ceremony at Joe Louis Arena. Yzerman played his entire NHL career with the Red Wings and helped lead the team to three Stanley Cup championships.
