1. The first temple in Utah was dedicated on October 30, 1877. The St. George Temple was the first temple built in Utah and remains one of the oldest operating temples in the world. It took six years to construct and was dedicated by LDS Church President Brigham Young.

2. October 30, 1950, marked the first Utah Jazz basketball game played in Salt Lake City. The team, then known as the New Orleans Jazz, played the Phoenix Suns in front of a crowd of 8,500 at the Salt Palace.

3. On October 30, 1982, the Marysvale landslide occurred in Utah's Sevier County. The landslide was the largest in Utah's history, covering 22 acres and burying a section of Highway 89 under 65 feet of rock and debris. Luckily, no one was killed in the disaster.

4. Utah's first national park, Zion National Park, was established on October 30, 1919. The park covers over 146,000 acres of breathtaking canyons, cliffs, and landscapes. Zion has since become one of the most visited national parks in the country.

5. On October 30, 2007, President George W. Bush visited Salt Lake City's Primary Children's Hospital. The President stopped by the hospital to speak about child healthcare and to sign into law the reauthorization of the State Children's Health Insurance Program.
