1. Utah became a state on September 1, 1896. After a long struggle for statehood, Utah was admitted as the 45th state in the Union.

2. In 1949, a major flood hit the southern part of Utah on September 1. The flooding lasted for several days and caused extensive damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure in the area.

3. September 1, 1918, marked the beginning of the Spanish Flu pandemic in Utah. The outbreak would go on to claim the lives of more than 1,500 Utahns by the end of the year.

4. On September 1, 1937, the first portion of the Bonneville Salt Flats Speedway was officially opened. The speedway would go on to host numerous racing events, including land speed record attempts.

5. September 1, 1972, saw the opening of the Salt Lake City International Airport's Terminal 1. The new terminal was a significant upgrade from the previous facility and helped to modernize the airport.
