1. The 9/11 attacks led to heightened security measures at the Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, Mississippi. The space center, which houses numerous government agencies, ramped up security in the days and weeks following the attacks, including implementing vehicle checkpoints and ID card requirements for all employees and visitors.

2. In 2003, the Mississippi National Guard deployed troops to Iraq as part of the U.S. military's response to the 9/11 attacks. The 155th Brigade Combat Team, made up of soldiers from Mississippi and other southern states, served in Iraq for over a year before returning home in 2004.

3. On September 11, 2011, a group of cyclists embarked on the "Mississippi 9/11 Challenge" to honor the victims of the attacks and raise awareness for first responders. The cyclists, who included firefighters and police officers, biked over 700 miles across the state of Mississippi over the course of two weeks.

4. The University of Southern Mississippi held a memorial service on September 11, 2019, to mark the 18th anniversary of the attacks. The service, organized by the university's Center for Military Veterans, Service Members and Families, featured a keynote speech by retired U.S. Navy Commander Daniel O'Connor.

5. In the aftermath of the attacks, the city of Tupelo erected a monument in Veterans Park to honor the victims and first responders. The monument, which features a steel beam from the World Trade Center, was dedicated on September 11, 2011, and has become a site for annual remembrance ceremonies.
