4. In 1960, Rhode Island Governor Christopher Del Sesto declared the first "Rhode Island Seafood Day," in honor of the state's fishing industry. The annual event is still celebrated today, and features a variety of seafood-related activities and celebrations throughout the state.

5. On September 27, 1983, the Rhode Island Supreme Court ruled that the state's anti-discrimination laws applied to gays and lesbians. The decision marked a major victory for the LGBTQ+ community in Rhode Island, and helped to pave the way for greater acceptance and equality in the state.
