3. On September 6, 1901, William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, was assassinated in Buffalo, New York. Louisiana's own Theodore Roosevelt, who was serving as Vice President at the time, then became the country's youngest-ever President.

4. The Battle of Baton Rouge took place on September 6, 1862, during the Civil War. Union forces under the command of General Thomas Williams defeated Confederate soldiers near Louisiana's capital city.

5. Hurricane Betsy struck New Orleans on September 6, 1965, causing massive flooding and damage throughout the city. The storm left over 60 people dead and remains one of the costliest hurricanes to ever hit the United States.
