Can you tell us about yourself? 

“Can you tell us about yourself? So, my name is Bode. I work at the University of Kentucky. I'm a teacher and research for coding and my school is located in Lexington, Kentucky, United States. Um, at this particular institution I've spent about six years.”


Why did you start a career in education?

"Why did you start a career in education? Um, I feel I sort of our career way back in 1998, so, um, in my own country. One of the reasons why I decided to return to the same school I finish from was because of my love to impact large. Um, I kind of worked as a tutor when I was an undergraduate student and I loved it. I, I liked the glow of eyes seeing the faces, the students when I teach them and they comprehend what, uh, I taught them. And also I like the fact that I see students, you know, go through a program from year one to the end and then going on to build a career. Um, and seeing the summer, my contribution help then what we saw them in the career. So this, this, uh, this, uh, my motivation to turn to professional teaching and that has made me to stay professional for, uh, whenever, you know, um, trying to 21 year."


If you could have any other job what would it be and why?

"You can have any of the job or will it be and why? Um, I think maybe I'll be a musician. I love to sing. I'm naturally gifted in singing a song in one choir and others since 1986. I kind of sing in church choir. Um, so maybe it will be musician. Um, uh, I dunno. Um, maybe I will be practicing engineering in the industry." 


How are kids different now than 30 years ago?

"How are kids different now than 30 years ago? Um, one very major difference is the fact that students today have very short attention span and the reason that that's the natural beauty to this, this exposure to technology, um, kids get exposed to things like hyper cell phones much early in their lives. So, um, they're used to seeing images, videos, and that that also informs how they learn. A lot of kids today, uh, are visual learners. Um, they respond to, um, you know, view teaching animation, um, than just you writing a little board. Um, and also, um, I mean they have a lot of access to technology than 20 years ago. So that keeps them a lot of option." 


How is teaching different now than 30 years ago?

"How is teaching different now 30 years ago? Yeah. That also goes back to technology, um, that a lot of tools to help teachers teach today then they there were 30 years ago. Uh, most of the tools we back then were, you know, blackboard papers, pencils, erases. Today, you have computers, personal computers, IPad, cell phone, um, all kinds of audio, visual gadgets. Um, you have the internet. Um, you have a lot of software's, um, that are the students have access to today then, you know, 30 years ago. So some of these things have made teaching different, uh, classrooms that completely different, defeated with all kinds of electronic assistance, um, projectors, screens, you know, um, personal computers, um, limits technology as home, you know, teaching classroom today, then 30 years ago." 


What would you tell someone who wants to become a teacher?

"One thing I would tell the person is that you have to love the job to be in it. Um, you must see a student as human, uh, and not treat a massive file or number. Um, and because you, I booked you to relate to them. Uh, definitely would it impact how you are able to impact knowledge, uh, you know, be you being able to relate to them as a person, um, will go a very long way. Um, so you need to love the job, love the people that you teach to be in the, to be in the profession." 


What is one thing you would change to help kids learn better?

"There's one thing that you would change to help kids learn better. Um, one thing is technology. I want to take technology away from them. I want to take away itself, cell phone, take away smartwatch, um, I to take away iPod, uh, its tools of destruction in classrooms. I've seen this repeatedly. Um, so that I will have to change and our kids can, you know, be very focused in classroom, but instead I want to get into their head and tell them that they should prioritize schoolwork above any other thing. Um, there are a lot of distractions, really recycled technology. A lot of them work part-time, so they don't really understand, um, the value of education. And you know, so this is one of the things I'm going to tell them. Thank you."
