Can you tell us about yourself?
"My name is Amanda Kennington. I teach at Richter Elementary. I'm a teacher of third grade science and social studies and Dayton, Texas. This is my first year there."
Why did you start a career in education?
"I started teaching 18 years ago, um, as a kinesiology major to teach PE."
If you could have any other job what would it be and why?
"Um, if I could have any other job, it would be something where I could stay at home, um, all the time to spend more time with my family and my kids."
How are kids different now than 30 years ago?
"Kids are different now than they were 30 years ago because they have access to a lot of technology. They have all the, a lot of information at their fingertips."
How is teaching different now than 30 years ago?
"And teaching is different than it was 30 years ago because we have to as teachers know a lot about technology, distance learning, remote learning, um, and then just to keep our students interested."
What would you tell someone who wants to become a teacher?
"Um, if somebody was thinking about becoming a teacher, I think it's a very honorable profession. Um, people need teachers, good teachers, um, that have a lot of passion for what they do."
What is one thing you would change to help kids learn better?
"And if I could change, one thing to help kids learn better is just to have the, the supplies that the students need to learn, whether it be technology or just markers, pencils, the regular day to day that teachers a lot of times spend their own money on."
