A group of students at Indiana University organized a rally in Dunn Meadow to bring attention to environmental issues and urge action from lawmakers. 2. On April 22, 1930, a tornado struck the town of Monticello, Indiana, killing 17 people and injuring many others. The storm caused extensive damage to homes and businesses in the area, and remains one of the deadliest tornadoes in Indiana history.

3. In 1987, the Indiana Pacers defeated the Atlanta Hawks 107-105 in the second game of a first-round playoff series. The victory marked the first time the Pacers had won a playoff game in 18 years, and helped set the stage for a successful era of Indiana basketball in the 1990s.

On April 22, 1861, Hoosier soldiers under the command of Colonel Lew Wallace marched from Indianapolis to the Ohio River, where they crossed into Kentucky to join the Union army in the fight against the Confederacy. Wallace later became a general and achieved fame as the author of the novel "Ben-Hur."

5. The Indiana State Police was established on April 22, 1933, with 16 officers tasked with enforcing traffic laws and investigating crimes in rural areas. Today, the agency has over 1,200 troopers and more than 200 civilian employees, and is responsible for a wide range of law enforcement operations across the state.
