1. In 1939, the first game was played at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Purdue Boilermakers defeated the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Golden Norsemen 26-0.

2. On August 26, 1959, the Indiana State Fair experienced a tragedy when a hot air balloon carrying two men, John Steele and Emerson Cole, crashed into a pond. Both men died in the accident.

3. In 1974, former Indiana Governor and Vice Presidential candidate Thomas E. Dewey died in Miami, Florida at the age of 68.

4. On August 26, 1988, the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania hosted a symposium on the history of the Tuskegee Airmen. Several surviving members of the famed African American World War II fighter pilot group attended the event.

5. In 2006, musician and actor Jared Leto's band "30 Seconds to Mars" played a concert at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana.
