1. On February 16, 1865, Delaware officially ratified the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which abolished slavery throughout the country. Delaware was one of the last states to ratify the amendment, and it did so only after several failed attempts.

2. In 1946, on February 16, the DuPont Company announced that it would extend employee benefits to cover non-white workers for the first time.
