2. On January 10, 1942, the German submarine U-123 torpedoed and sank the City of Atlanta off the coast of Florida. This was the first German submarine attack on the United States during World War II.

3. In 1985, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first NFL team to have a cheerleading squad composed entirely of men. The group, called the "Buccaneer Beefeaters," made their debut on January 10th of that year.

4. The Space Shuttle Columbia launched on January 10, 1997, with an all-female crew that included Commander Eileen Collins. This was the first time a Space Shuttle mission had been commanded by a woman.

5. On January 10, 2008, Florida Governor Charlie Crist issued an executive order that banned discrimination based on sexual orientation in state employment. This made Florida the first Southern state to offer such protections for LGBT individuals.
