1) January 26, 1936 was the day the first oil well was drilled in Cushing, Oklahoma. This discovery led to the development of the Cushing Oil Field, which is still one of the largest oil storage centers in the world.

2) On January 26, 1907, Oklahoma became the 46th state admitted to the United States. The name "Oklahoma" is derived from the Choctaw words "okla" meaning "people" and "humma" meaning "red".

3) The Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team played their first game on January 26, 2009, against the Milwaukee Bucks. The team relocated from Seattle and has since become a fan favorite in Oklahoma.

4) In 1952, a massive earthquake struck central Oklahoma on January 26, damaging buildings and causing minor injuries. The quake registered a magnitude of 5.5 and was felt as far away as Missouri.

5) January 26, 1967 marked the launch of Apollo 1 from Cape Kennedy, Florida. This mission was a fatal catastrophe, as a fire broke out during a test and killed all three astronauts on board. One of those astronauts was Ed White, a native of Oklahoma and the first American to walk in space during the Gemini 4 mission.
