1. In 1763, the first European settlement was established in Vermont by the French at Fort St. Frédéric, which was later captured by the British and renamed Fort Ticonderoga.

2. In 1775, Ethan Allen and his militia, known as the Green Mountain Boys, captured Fort Ticonderoga from the British, marking a significant victory for the American Revolution.

3. In 1874, Vermont became the first US state to prohibit the sale and consumption of alcohol, known as the Vermont Temperance Law. The law was later repealed in 1902.

4. In 1927, Vermont native and aviation pioneer Charles Lindbergh flew over the state during his historic transatlantic flight from New York to Paris.

5. In 1941, construction began on the Vermont State House in Montpelier, which was completed in 1859 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
