1. On March 12, 1869, the Kentucky legislature passed a bill allowing women to practice law. This made Kentucky the third state in the US to grant women the right to practice law, after Wisconsin and California.

2. On March 12, 1921, the Kentucky State Police force was established. This force was created to enforce prohibition laws as well as other state laws, and it eventually became known for its involvement in the investigation of the Hatfield-McCoy feud.

3. On March 12, 1938, the Kentucky Derby Festival was inaugurated. This festival is held annually in Louisville, KY, leading up to the Kentucky Derby race. It includes a variety of events such as parades, concerts, and the Great Steamboat Race.

4. On March 12, 1971, Alice Lloyd College held its first graduation ceremony. This private college in Eastern Kentucky was founded in 1923 to provide educational opportunities to students in the Appalachian region, and it continues to serve that mission today.

5. On March 12, 1999, Kentucky native and former US Senator Wendell Ford was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. Ford, who served in the Senate from 1974 to 1999, was known for his work on issues such as agriculture, energy, and the environment.
